University:
From the perspective of a university management, the university is a knowledge organization that fuction like a corporation and happen to hand out diplomas every year. For us, the university should be a non-corporate, trasparent, de-militarized haven allowing for transformation, for change and for active learning.
Archiving:
What happens if we don’t take care of ourselves?
The university will not make records of what students have done especially when it comes to contesting it. As students we are temporary allowing the university to set violent standards as the norm and to make it hard for us to unionize and politicize. Archiving, collecting and making our tools public for others is a crucial form of contestation, care and sustainability.
Node:
Nodes can form at the intersection of threads but can also keep the threads together in the first place. Nodes are projects, activities, groups, concrete instances that mostly emerged from the context SPIN is situated in right now: the Willem de Kooning art Academy. http://autoarachnology.net/
SPIN:
SPIN, spider in dutch, emerged from the corners of the university as a climate collective. Now the collective is more focused on bringing sustainable structures to the university through different forms like recycling and engaging with materials, facilitating jobs for students, providing a bottom-up curriculum connected to the rooftop garden and taking care of the rooftop garden.
Study:
Study is usually defined as an individual process of learning arising from books. I would like to define study as a collective process, it happens with other people and not alone memorizing some definitions. The study happens outside of being credited and it doesn’t need the approval of the university. Study emerges in between or under the university. Study happens after class, during a walk, working, dancing, crafting, suffering… To recognize the study within these activities is to recognize their intellectuality and how they can happen separate from the thinking that institutions require of you.
